Scale insects can look like tiny fixed bumps on citrus leaves, twigs or fruit. Different scale species behave differently, so identification matters before treatment.
What to look for
Check both leaf surfaces, stems and fruit. Some scales produce honeydew while armored scales do not. Ants, sooty mold, leaf spotting and declining vigor can provide additional clues.
Why timing matters
Young mobile stages called crawlers are often easier to manage than mature protected scale. Natural enemies can also be important.
