Shopping for trees and plants

How do I choose the right tree or plant?

Start with your sun exposure, available space, drainage and local microclimate. Browse Plant People, then use Plant Type, Size, Price and Tree Form filters. For fruit trees, also check winter chill and pollination. Ask us for help choosing.

What do gallon and box sizes mean?

They describe the growing container, not a guaranteed tree height, trunk diameter or fruit yield. The same container size can contain different canopy sizes depending on the species and growing history. We confirm specimen details before fulfillment.

What is the difference between single trunk, multitrunk, standard and bush?

Single trunk has one main stem; multitrunk has several. A standard is trained with a raised canopy, while a bush branches lower. Forms vary by plant and selected variant. Choose the listed form, or send your preference when requesting a specimen.

Are the product photos the exact plants I will receive?

Unless explicitly identified as the available specimen, photos are representative botanical or cultivar images. Actual shape, branching, height and seasonal appearance vary. Ask for specimen details when a particular appearance matters.

How do prices work?

Select the container size and form on the product page to see that variant's price. Delivery and professional planting are quoted separately unless the product or package expressly includes them. Larger and specialty specimens may require a quote.

Does submitting a request reserve stock or require payment?

Use our website to request your preferred variety and container size. Submitting a request does not complete a purchase or guarantee availability. We verify stock and plant health, then confirm your selection, pricing and estimated delivery window. No payment is accepted until stock and plant health have been verified. If your selection is unavailable or does not meet our health standards, we discuss suitable alternatives with you before proceeding.

We do not substitute a different selection without your approval.

Can you source a plant that is not listed?

Yes—request a plant or specialty specimen. Include the botanical or common name, preferred size and form, quantity, delivery city and photos of the intended planting area.

Delivery and planting

Where do you deliver and work?

We serve South Orange County from Newport Beach and Irvine south to San Clemente, and inland through Mission Viejo, Coto de Caza, Rancho Santa Margarita and Foothill Ranch. See the complete Areas We Serve list.

How are delivery and planting arranged?

After confirming the selection, we review your location, access, tree size and planting requirements and provide the applicable quote. Delivery timing is arranged after availability and access are confirmed.

Can you plant large box trees or work in difficult-access yards?

We review access before quoting. Large trees, slopes, stairs, narrow gates and restricted parking may require equipment or a different installation approach. Send access photos and measurements with your inquiry.

What does professional planting involve?

We review the site, soil, drainage, irrigation and planting depth and plan the installation for the tree and property. Read The Earth People Planting Standard and request a site-specific quote.

Fruit trees and ongoing care

What are chill hours, and do they matter here?

Many deciduous fruit cultivars need winter cold for normal spring growth and fruiting. Requirements vary by cultivar, and a beachfront garden may receive less chill than an inland site. Read our South Orange County chill-hours guide.

Do I need a second tree for pollination?

Some cultivars are self-fruitful; others need a compatible pollenizer with overlapping bloom. Avocado flowering types also affect orchard planning. Check the product description and ask us to review the combination before ordering.

When will my tree produce fruit?

Timing depends on cultivar, age, rootstock, establishment, pollination and site conditions. Container size alone does not guarantee fruit in the first season. We can help set expectations for your selection.

Can you help with unhealthy plants or irrigation problems?

Yes. We offer plant-health assessment, irrigation troubleshooting and landscape care. Request a property inspection or contact us with photos and a brief description.

Do you design native and edible landscapes?

Yes. We work with California natives, fruit trees, specimen trees, soil improvement and irrigation as part of landscape design and installation. Start a project consultation.

What if I have a problem after delivery?

Contact us promptly with your order details and clear photos so we can review the concern and next steps. Any product-specific terms or store policies apply; planting and aftercare requirements are discussed for your project.

Planning, approvals and aftercare

Who handles unloading and access for larger trees?

We review the delivery route, site access, tree weight and handling needs before finalizing arrangements. Specialized equipment or labor may be necessary for some specimens; unloading and planting are not assumed to be included unless listed in your confirmed scope. Read our ordering and delivery guide.

What if site conditions change the installation plan?

Drainage, underground obstacles, restricted access or other conditions may require a different approach. We explain any proposed scope or price changes and seek approval before proceeding with additional work. Read the tree ordering, delivery and care guide.

What care is needed after planting?

Watering and establishment depend on the species, soil, season and weather. Ongoing irrigation, pest monitoring and plant care are important, and are separate services unless expressly included in your agreement. Plant performance varies and any specific written warranty or legally required remedies still apply.
