Cycle and Soak Irrigation

Cycle-and-soak breaks a longer irrigation runtime into shorter applications with rest periods between them. It can be useful where water begins running off before the soil has absorbed the intended amount.

Where It Can Help

Slopes, compacted areas and slower-infiltrating soils may benefit when runoff begins before a full watering runtime is complete.

It Is Not a Universal Fix

Runoff can also come from broken equipment, excessive pressure, poor nozzle selection, overspray or drainage issues. Those problems should be diagnosed rather than hidden with programming.
