Size

The Chandler Pummelo (Citrus maxima 'Chandler') is a large, sweet citrus variety prized for its juicy, thick-skinned fruit and mild, refreshing flavor. Known for its enormous size and low-acid, seedless or nearly seedless flesh, the Chandler Pummelo is a standout choice for home orchards and gourmet citrus enthusiasts.

🍊 Fruit Characteristics

  • Size & Shape: Extra-large, often weighing 2–4 pounds or more, with a round to slightly pear-shaped form and a thick, pale-yellow rind.

  • Flavor: Sweet, mild, and juicy with subtle citrus aromatics; low acidity makes it ideal for fresh eating, salads, and juicing.

  • Seed Content: Mostly seedless or contains very few seeds.

  • Segments: Contains large, tender, juicy segments that are easy to separate.

  • Harvest Season: Ripens from late winter through early spring, with fruit holding well on the tree for several weeks.

🌳 Tree Characteristics

  • Mature Size: Reaches 15–20 feet in height and width when planted in the ground; smaller in containers.

  • Growth Habit: Upright and moderately spreading, making it suitable for home orchards, large patios, or landscape planting.

  • Hardiness Zones: Thrives in USDA Zones 9–11; can tolerate brief cooler periods with protection.

  • Pollination: Self-fertile; does not require another tree for fruit production.

🌱 Planting & Care

  • Sunlight: Requires full sun for optimal growth and fruit production.

  • Soil: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil.

  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, especially during fruit development, but avoid waterlogging.

  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release citrus fertilizer in early spring and mid-summer.

  • Pruning: Prune lightly to maintain shape and remove any dead or diseased wood.

The Chandler Pummelo tree is an excellent choice for home gardeners seeking a spectacular citrus tree that produces sweet, enormous fruit perfect for fresh eating, juicing, or culinary use throughout the winter and early spring months.

Important: Citrus Delivery & HLB Information

Delivery schedule: We group citrus deliveries approximately twice a month, targeting the first and last Friday. Dates are estimates, not guaranteed. We confirm each delivery after verifying nursery availability and routing.

HLB and availability: Citrus stock and transportation are subject to availability and California citrus quarantine restrictions. Every tree is inspected before delivery, but inspection cannot guarantee freedom from latent disease or future exposure. Huanglongbing (HLB), or citrus greening, is a serious bacterial disease affecting California citrus.

Warranty: We do not offer a voluntary post-delivery citrus tree health or survival warranty. This does not limit rights or remedies required by law, including rights concerning the condition of trees when supplied.

Professional planting is available separately. Please contact us if you require a specific delivery date.
