The Kaffir Lime (Citrus hystrix) is a unique, aromatic citrus variety prized for its intensely fragrant leaves and bumpy, green fruit. Renowned in Southeast Asian cuisine, both the leaves and rind add vibrant flavor to dishes, making this tree a must-have for culinary enthusiasts and home gardeners seeking a flavorful, ornamental citrus.

🍊 Fruit & Leaf Characteristics

  • Fruit Size & Shape: Small to medium-sized, round to slightly oblong, with a distinctive rough, bumpy green rind.

  • Flavor & Aroma: Fruit is very tart and aromatic; rind is used sparingly in cooking. Leaves are intensely fragrant and impart a citrusy, slightly floral flavor to soups, curries, and sauces.

  • Seed Content: Contains seeds, though propagation is often done via cuttings or grafting for consistency.

  • Harvest Season: Fruit and leaves can be harvested year-round in warm climates, with peak leaf production during spring and summer.

🌳 Tree Characteristics

  • Mature Size: Typically reaches 6–12 feet in height and 4–8 feet in width; suitable for container or landscape planting.

  • Growth Habit: Upright, bushy, and moderately dense, making it both ornamental and productive.

  • Hardiness Zones: Thrives in USDA Zones 10–11; can be grown in containers in cooler climates with winter protection.

  • Pollination: Self-fertile; fruit production does not require a second tree.

🌱 Planting & Care

  • Sunlight: Prefers full sun but tolerates partial shade.

  • Soil: Requires well-drained, fertile soil.

  • Watering: Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged; more frequent watering during hot, dry periods.

  • Fertilization: Apply a balanced, slow-release citrus fertilizer in spring and late summer.

  • Pruning: Prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage dense leaf growth; remove any dead or damaged wood.

The Kaffir Lime tree is an ideal choice for gardeners and chefs seeking a compact, aromatic citrus tree that produces flavorful leaves and fruit year-round. Its combination of culinary utility and ornamental appeal makes it a standout addition to home gardens, patios, and container plantings.

Important: Citrus Delivery & HLB Information

Delivery schedule: We group citrus deliveries approximately twice a month, targeting the first and last Friday. Dates are estimates, not guaranteed. We confirm each delivery after verifying nursery availability and routing.

HLB and availability: Citrus stock and transportation are subject to availability and California citrus quarantine restrictions. Every tree is inspected before delivery, but inspection cannot guarantee freedom from latent disease or future exposure. Huanglongbing (HLB), or citrus greening, is a serious bacterial disease affecting California citrus.

Warranty: We do not offer a voluntary post-delivery citrus tree health or survival warranty. This does not limit rights or remedies required by law, including rights concerning the condition of trees when supplied.

Professional planting is available separately. Please contact us if you require a specific delivery date.
