Clusters of small sap-feeding insects on tender citrus shoots can cause curled or distorted new leaves. Sticky honeydew and ant activity are additional clues.
How to check
Uncurl tender leaves and inspect shoot tips. Do not diagnose aphids from leaf curl alone: leafminer, thrips, psyllids and other problems can also distort citrus foliage.

Assess whether the population is actually damaging the tree, preserve beneficial insects and consider ant activity. Broad-spectrum insecticides can disrupt natural control.
