Large green beetles feeding around soft ripe fruit are a familiar summer sight in Southern California gardens.
Why ripe fruit attracts them
Overripe, damaged and fermenting fruit can attract fruit-feeding beetles and other insects. Keeping ripe fruit harvested and removing fallen or spoiled fruit can reduce attractive food sources.
Inspect before treating
Confirm what insect is present and whether damage is significant. Not every beetle visiting a fruit tree requires pesticide treatment.
