A Southern California native shrub with aromatic, softly hairy foliage and lavender tubular flowers. Its relaxed form suits informal habitat gardens and chaparral-inspired borders.

- Light: Full sun to light shade; afternoon protection is useful in hot inland exposures.
- Mature size: Commonly 3–5 feet tall and 4–5 feet wide.
- Water & drought: Water through establishment, then reduce to occasional irrigation according to soil and heat. Drought tolerant once established.
- Soil: Adaptable to several soil types, including clay with adequate drainage. Avoid prolonged saturation.
- Growth: Generally fast growing in favorable conditions, developing a branched, woody framework. Main flowering is in spring.
- Wildlife: Flowers attract bumblebees and hummingbirds; foliage supports habitat diversity.
- Maintenance: Pinch young tips or lightly prune after flowering to encourage branching. Retain leafy growth when shaping older stems.
- Landscape uses: Fragrant borders, woodland edges, pollinator gardens and informal shrub groupings. Provide its full spread instead of relying on frequent shearing.
