Blue flowers for sunny South Orange County gardens
Salvia ‘Mystic Spires Blue’ is a compact hybrid flowering sage with upright spikes of blue-purple flowers and leafy green growth. Use it to bring repeat color to sunny borders, grouped landscape plantings and large containers.
Botanical name: Salvia longispicata × farinacea ‘Mystic Spires Blue’. This is an ornamental hybrid, not a California native plant.
Choose your container size
- 1 Gallon — $45.99 per plant: a smaller nursery container for establishing a grouped planting.
- 5 Gallon — $89.99 per plant: a larger nursery container for a fuller starting plant.
Minimum order: 3 plants of your selected size. Prices are per plant. Container size describes the nursery pot, not a guaranteed plant height. Plant size, fullness and flowering vary with season and nursery availability.
Planting and care
- Light: full sun.
- Landscape height: generally about 18–30 inches; growth varies with growing conditions.
- Soil: provide good drainage; avoid a constantly saturated root zone.
- Water: water thoroughly during establishment, then adjust irrigation to weather, soil and plant response. Allow the soil to dry moderately between waterings.
- Flowering: repeat flowers during the growing season. Light pruning helps refresh the plant and encourage another flush.
