Corethrogyne filaginifolia 'Silver Carpet' (syn. Lessingia filaginifolia 'Silver Carpet')
A low California native selection with silvery foliage and lavender-pink daisies in summer and fall. Its spreading mat softens rock edges and brings late-season flowers to habitat gardens.
Southern California growing guide
- Light: Full sun to light shade.
- Mature size: Roughly 6–12 inches tall and 3–5 feet wide, potentially wider with time.
- Water & drought: Water during establishment, then reduce irrigation. Drought tolerant, with occasional summer water especially useful inland.
- Soil: Adaptable, including clay with suitable drainage. Avoid standing water.
- Growth: Evergreen, spreading groundcover. Allow room for outward growth rather than planting tightly against smaller neighbors.
- Wildlife: Flowers attract bees and butterflies; the species also supports butterfly and moth larvae.
- Maintenance: Trim wandering stems and lightly tidy after flowering. Keep paths clear while retaining its relaxed shape.
- Landscape uses: Groundcover masses, meadow borders, rock gardens and spilling over edges. This ornamental planting is not a walking surface.
