Calycanthus occidentalis
A distinctive California native deciduous shrub with deep red-maroon, fragrant flowers and broad green leaves.
Landscape use
Excellent for informal woodland gardens, seasonal screening and riparian-inspired planting.
Growing considerations
Unlike many chaparral plants, it appreciates supplemental moisture and protection from intense inland afternoon sun. Final suitability depends on the property's exposure, soil and microclimate.
Choose your specimen
Choose the desired nursery container size above. Height, branching and seasonal appearance vary between plants; container size alone does not guarantee specimen dimensions. We verify current nursery availability and plant condition before payment.
